A quick update on the roadster's rear. The Posies rear quarter elliptical springs tacked in. Next comes the ladders.

A TRUE CRAFTSMAN -- SELLER'S EQUIPPED
Here's a short film about Steve Sellers talking about his philosophy, including scenes of him prepping a 28-29 Hallock style windshield. I can't help but wonder if this might be my actual windshield he's working on, as this film seems to have been shot just days before I received mine. Enjoy!

POTENTIAL INSTRUMENT PANEL
I was tipped off to a great resource for looking at vintage dash clusters and in looking at it came across this 1958 cluster. Can't help but wonder what it might look like centered in the roadster's dash in concert with the rectangular wheel.

INTERIOR REFERENCE
Found this on the internet and wanted to post it as reference for what I'd like to do in the interior of the '29. Not so much the material, per se, but the idea of having storage areas build into the inner door panels, and perhaps even the trunk that are a lot like shoulder bags. It will be a long time before I'm sweating such details, but when I do, I'll have this to look back at.
Hopefully, I'll have more progress to report on the build soon.

SPEEDO THOUGHT
A quick thought. Early Bronco five-in-one speedo.
66-70. Imagine it centered in a model A dash.
You get the basic idea.

PARTS LIST FOR NEXT THREE MONTHS
SHORT RIBBED WATER PUMP
PINKIES PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND HYDRAULICS RESERVOIRS
CUSTOM RADIATOR
REAR END THIRD MEMBER
GOT THE BACKING PLATES
The Wilson backing plates arrived so we can get the front end completed. I also grabbed my leftover '65 Riviera rear backing plates while I was in Austin for the Round Up. We're going to reuse them on the 9" rear. Next step will be to get all the backing plates set-up so the car can roll out of the garage. We'll be able to stand back from the car and make sure we're happy with the stance and ride height before the rear suspension is fabricated. Then it's on to the floors, pedal placement and getting the Seller's Equipped Hallock windshield installed. I'll post progess shots soon.

OL SKOOL' WHEELS IN CUSTOM SIZES
Just found a company that can make original style steelies in modern sizes. Not everyone's cup of tea, but worth knowing about:

DASH AND GAUGE PLACEMENT
Playing with placement of my gauges on my Brookville dash panel. After pushing the gauges all over the place, I think I've arrived at a sweet placement. Of course, nothing is set in stone yet, but I think I've got an interesting layout here.

PARTS LIST
I occasionally use my blog to keep track of the next few parts I have to acquire. This is one of those times.
Brake stuff -- Buick drum backing plates
pedal assembly
Finned short water pump
Custom radiator
9" center carrier w/ gears
WINDSHIELD
Exciting development. We mocked-up the Sellers Equipped Hallock-style windshield and it's beginning to look like a car.

THEM ARE THE BRAKES
Progress is being made. This weekend, the Buick brake drums got drilled for the 9" axles. The front hubs are installed, and the headers are on, if only for reference.

REAR SUSPENSION & COWL REPAIR
Here's a shot of the initial planning for the triangulated four link.
The Posies 3/4 elliptical mocked up alongside a rear link.
Tire rear tire's stance looks just about perfect to me.
Rear wheel is mounted to the axle shaft.
Tire clearance looks tight. Hopefully not too tight.
Here's a before shot of the front cowl before Mr. T performed his magic.
Gotta love the fresh metal.
Smooth as a baby's butt.

THIS CAPS IT
Had a crappy day on Tuesday at work. Came home and ordered a gas cap for the roadster, even though we're a long way from actually needing it. It's a Monza-style, flip cap like you'd see on a Lemans car, and compact in design. It's actually from a chopper parts supplier and would look equally at home on an old school motorcycle. Nope, this one's going to rock four wheels.

FINAL REAR SUSPENSION
I just got back from the roadster and the final plan is in place for the rear suspension. It'll be a triangulated 4-link, using a Pete and Jakes kit. I'll post shots as it comes together.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION AND INTERIOR MOTIVES
I resolve to stay true to the roadster's concept, a late fifties/early sixties style custom. I want a waterfall descending from the rear package shelf into the center console. Like El Tiki, I'd like some of the roadster's switches installed in the center console: ignition switch, lights, lighter, etc. I'd also like to have a rear waterfall from the deck former down into the center console, which will integrate a center speaker, and whatever kind power amp an MP3 set-up requires. Needs to look old school custom with modern acoustics. And lastly, I'd like a section of the console to be padded
for use of an armrest. As far as the dash, I'll be using vintage OEM rebuilt instruments. I'd also like to build in some storage, whether it be a glovebox, interior door pockets, a package shelf beneath the dash, or a combination of all three.
We're basing the seating off of a couple of John Deere tractor seat pans we'll be modifying to accommodate the trans tunnel and console. The seats will need to be recessed deeply into floors as get my 6'5" frame down into the car. As far as upholstery goes, I'm hoping to employ the services of Sean Johnstun, aka Fat Lucky's, as I have in the past. Bet this time around, I'll give him more creative freedom than in the past. I'll suggest materials and an era only, and then get out of his way. The man is amazing. So that's the plan I resolve to stick to.
